A New America ?
62Ground Rules
This is not a rant, it is intended to be constructive, if only one village, town, city, state in America made an effort to return government to the people all the deaths in wars for freedom and all the suffering would not be in vain.
I would be very grateful if anyone commenting would restrict their comments to the pros or cons of the ten points below... many thanks..
A New America
Proposals:-
1. Scrap the two party system
Political parties are tribes, they only ever smile on members of their tribe, it is inherent in the system and does not lead to good government.
2. Ban career politicians
how can you be a career politician and become rich, they are diametrically opposed, being a politican needs to be more like jury duty, you do it and then you are never back.
3. Allow a person only two years ever as a politician
Einstein said something like ...the problems we face cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.
4. Make voting mandatory
You cannot successfully run a country when all of the people do not vote.
5. Create regional 'Washingtons'
Washington has become a mecca for liars, cheats and thieves. In this modern age it is time for distributed government.
6. Create candidate platform template weighted and scored
They get elected on platforms and then they vote however they like. Each politician must complete a template which revolves around the core issues. They must score and weight their attitudes and adhere to their election manifesto.
7. Link pay to platform template voting consistency
Do not expect to be paid if you do not follow the promises you made
8. Link attendance to pay
Do not expect to be paid if you do not turn up
9. Ban all forms of contributions
Politicians are 'bought' by contributions, even good ones, it is a disgrace and an insult to people who work hard to pay taxes.
10. RSS, web & database to track adherence to 'Promises'
Each voter needs to be able to look at clear information that tracks how their politician performs against their promises.

Interesting ideas, but:
1. what successfully run countries lack political parties?
2. Clinton was one and I think he did a bang up job
3. 2 years isn't enough time to understand all the nuances of political office
4. And what about people who want to boycott elections? Illegal?
5. The US, with state governments, is probably one of the most distributed government systems in the world. At least Washington isn't also the financial or cultural capital of the country, like London (UK) or Paris (France). That would lead to serious tunnel-vision.
6. Don't political opponents already do a pretty good job of pointing out inconsistencies in talk vs. action?
7. Doesn't leave much room to changing your mind. How many politicians today would be forced to stick to their Iraq policy of 2002?
8. I'm with you on this. They shouldn't be paid to campaign across the country.
9. Agreed again. Funnily enough, not a single politician in office is serious about this...
10. Nice idea but I doubt most voters are as tech savvy as you, Drax. :-{}
